Pearl of Wisdom
to Ja'far b. Muhammad al-'A imi, ?O 'A im, how are you at maintaining contact with each other and offering consolidation to each other?' [He said] I said, 'The best that anyone can be.' He said, 'Do any of you come to your brother's shop or his home in times of hardship and you pull out your purse for him to take whatever he needs without disapproving of him?!' He said, 'No.' Imam (AS) said, 'Then you are not at a state of mutual assistance that I love.'
Imam Musa ibn Jafar al-Kadhim [as] Bihar al-Anwar, v. 74, p. 231, no. 28

Sermon 73 When the Consultative Committee (or Shura) decided to swear allegiance to `Uthman, Amir al-mu'minin said:
You have certainly known that I am the most rightful of all others for the Caliphate. By Allah, so long as the affairs of Muslims remain intact and there is no oppression in it save on myself I shall keep quiet seeking reward for it (from Allah) and keeping aloof from its attractions and allurements for which you aspire.
