Pearl of Wisdom

'Allah Almighty said: 'I only accept the prayer of he who has humiliated himself to My Majesty, has refrained himself from carnal desires for My sake, he passes his day with My remembrance, does not act haughty over My creation, feeds the hungry, clothes the undressed, shows compassion to the afflicted and shelters the stranger. The light of such a person will shine like the sun and I shall grant him light in darkness and knowledge in ignorance. I will preserve him with My honour and guard him with My angels. When he calls me I will answer him, when he asks Me I will grant him. His example is like the story of gardens of Paradise where no fruit will become dry and its state will never change.'

Imam Ja'far ibn Muhammad al-Sadiq [as]
al-Mahasin, v. 1, p. 79, no. 44

Sermon 205 During the battle of Siffin Amir al-mu'minin heard some of his men abusing the Syrians, then he said:

I dislike you starting to abuse them, but if you describe their deeds and recount their situations that would be a better mode of speaking and a more convincing way of arguing. Instead of abusing them you should say, "O' Allah! save our blood and their blood, produce reconciliation between us and them, and lead them out of their misguidance so that he who is ignorant of the truth may know it, and he who inclines towards rebellion and revolt may turn away from it."
