Question: What is the philosophy of mourning for Imam Husain and his children?
Answer: The philosophy of mourning during 'Ashura, is to respect and revive the symbols of religion and remember the suffering of Imam Hussain (a.s.), his companions, and his uprising to defend Islam and prevent the destruction of the religion by Bani Umayyad dynasty.

These rites must be done in such a way that in addition to serving that purpose, it draws the attention of others to these lofty goals.

Most often written history is changed and corrupted to suit the rulers or State. But it is the oral history which struggles against this corruption of alliance of literates and white collar criminals who ally with powerful to corrupt written history. Yazeed and Mu'awiyah LA be on him and his ancestors and progeny hired many liars and greedy to spread false notions about Prophet Muhammad and his family Peace be upon all of them.

Oral history struggles to keep the Truth alive against this corruption. Currently this is being changed too. But at least new generations will get alternate view of history and will probe themselves as well as the history to find out what exactly happened. Although Muharram majlises do not have these objectives as goals to counter corrupted history, it is one of the ways Imam Hussain AS and his Divine victory is reaching far away corners in this World.
