Pearl of Wisdom

'The bane of humour is lack of shame; the bane of courage is aggression; the bane of generosity is mentioning one's favours to others; the bane of beauty is arrogance; the bane of worship is abeyance; the bane of speech is lying; the bane of knowledge is forgetfulness; the bane of wisdom is foolishness; the bane of good lineage is pride; and the bane of liberality is wastefulness.'

Question : #558 Category: Miscellaneous
Subject: Istikhaara for achieving something
Question: Salaam
Can an Istikhaara be performed in the situation of wanting to acheive something, and doing the Istikhaara to find out whether it is possible to acheive that and whether Allah will grant us that acheivement?
Thanks
Answer: Salam Alaykum

Istikhara is permissible to be done but before doing the Istikhara there must other things done.

1) Check if the reason of Istikhara has no fiqhi problem. For e.g. you can not do an istikhara for drinking alcohol because alcohol is haram.
2)If there is no fiqhi problem consult with those who have knowledge in the area of your intention. For e.g. if you are doing an istikhara for buying a business then first consult with those who are businessmen about your idea.
3)If consulting does not allow to reach a decision then you may get an istikhara and act upon it.

Istikhara is mainly used to tells us if it is good to act upon our intention or not. It is not used to tell us the future of our intention and so on.
