Pearl of Wisdom

'At the time of his death, my father, 'Ali b. al-Husayn (AS) hugged me close to his chest and said, ?O My son! I advise you as my father advised me at the time of his death, and he proceeded to mention that his father had advised him, saying: ?O My son! Endure the truth even if it be bitter.?

Question : #415 Category: Miscellaneous
Subject: Buying on Ashura
Question: Salamu alaykum,

In regards to Ashura, is it prohibited to purchase anything new? If so, what do we define as "new" (i.e. necessary vs. luxury). Also, can you please point out the source/reference to where this issue can be supported. Much thanks.
Answer: It is Makruh or undesirable, and the 'purchased' item shall not be blessed on that day.

New may refer to a good or service that was purchased.
