Question : #2281 Category: Business / Investment
Subject: Issue in the Job
Question: Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh. I pray you are in the best of health and Iman.

I am Misfar Siddeek, a Software Engineer from Sri Lanka. After eight months of unemployment and much Dua, Allah blessed me with a job at an Australian company. I have a wife and a two-month-old son to support.

I am currently on probation and have been assigned to build a frontend interface for a bank, specifically a loan calculator that displays interest rates and repayment amounts. While I am not writing the backend banking logic, I am responsible for building the visual tool that presents this information to users.

I am deeply concerned about the Hadith regarding those who record or facilitate interest. However, being on probation in a difficult job market, I fear that refusing this task could lead to termination and financial hardship for my family.

My questions are:

Does building the frontend display for a loan calculator fall under the prohibition/curse mentioned in the Hadith?

Given my family's vulnerability and my probation status, is there any concession, or must I risk my job to avoid this specific project?

I seek your guidance to ensure my earnings remain Halal and I do not earn the displeasure of Allah (SWT).

JazakAllahu Khairan,

Misfar Siddeek
Sri Lanka
